Virginia Bush Nature Reserve
As we entered the reserve, we were greeted by a serene dam and a maze of well-built trails that led us deeper into the coastal bush. The coastal bush reserve’s well-built trails and abundant birdlife, including green twinspot, grey waxbill, Natal robin, whitebrowed robin, boubou shrike, bush shrike, flycatcher, and blue-billed firefinch, also gave us a glimpse of its rich biodiversity, featuring other wildlife like blue duiker, spotted genet, and mongoose. We even captured a monkey in one of our pictures, adding to our unique and memorable experience.
The circular route around the reserve is about 1.5 kilometers long, and we easily spent two hours walking and exploring the trails. The reserve is suitable for beginner to intermediate fitness levels, and even kids can enjoy the peaceful environment.
While researching the reserve, we did come across reports of isolated incidents of crime, but we were relieved to see the safety measures that have been put in place. We felt completely at ease during our visit and appreciated the toilets and visitor center that were available for our convenience.
Overall, we highly recommend a visit to Virginia Bush Nature Reserve if you’re looking for a tranquil escape from the city. The free entry and easy accessibility make it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike.
